Coralie Clément - C’est la Vie
Once Mareva Galanter opted to distance herself from the ukulele with her second album, I knew I needed to find a new favorite french singer. Enter Coralie Clément.
She is Benjamin Biolay’s sister and her latest album, Toystore, relies very heavily on the ukulele. Is it any wonder it was one of my top five albums of last year?
She played here this...

Truth be told, Dionysos is currently my favorite French band. I love the imagery and thematic intensity they both promise and deliver. The addition of Olivia Ruiz — who I am sure we will hear from in a later post here — on much of their latest album, La Mécanique du Cœur, only made them better.
They sing in both French and English and are pretty much amazing.

Uni and her Ukulele is from California. She is also pretty rad - though her turquoise Super Mario brothers jumpsuit is the exact opposite of rad.

I was worried this...

Julien Doré won a French American Idol style TV show, Nouvelle Star. But do not hold that against him.
Also, do not hold his hairstyle in this clip against him. I hear there was both a tornado and hurricane in France that day….

Today is Mareva Galanter day here on Ukuleles, Oh My!
Sadly her wonderful Ukuyeye website seems to have been relegated to some memory hole, but it was pretty damn fantastic.
Her Ukuyeye album was really a major force in my love of both French pop and ukulele. I remember spending much of 2006 searching for a copy before I discovered a French music trading site. I needed it.
Sadly, her second...

Another one by Emilyn Brodsky. I was at this show and it was great to hear while watching the sun set behind Manhattan.
And the line “when the man in the terrible black coat mentioned those no longer with us, i assumed he meant those that are now against us” just slays me.
Plus, this was shortly after I was sure I was dying, making it all the more apt.
